AMD introduced the results of research on schedule in games
- Mar 12
At the 2022 AMD game developer conference will hold a series of sponsored sessions dedicated to various topics of graphics in games.
During one of the sessions entitled "Scaling the image of a new generation for games", the results of the latest AMD studies in the field of image scaling technology will be presented and explained how it improves the gameplay. However, it should be noted that AMD does not mention FSR or machine learning.
Those who are waiting for demonstrations or even FSR 2.0 teasers (FidelityFX Super Resolution) should probably reduce their expectations. Although AMD mentioned that FSR will develop, and at some point we must expect a new version, until the launch of AMD RDNA3 is left half a year. This architecture must have selected graphics processor blocks for a more complex image scaling acceleration.
The launch of AMD FSR 1.0 was quite successful and was implemented in a large number of games, mainly because AMD has opened the source code for using all game developers. However, AMD is now tested not only by NVIDIA, whose DLSS 2.0 based on the AI is still better working at lower permissions, but also from Intel, which should run Xess scaling at the end of this year.
In addition, AMD has not yet launched its Radeon Super Resolution technology, mostly FSR, but for all games at the driver level. Despite the January announcement, AMD has not yet confirmed when RSR will become available.
