Intel involuntarily confirmed another version of the DG2 graphics processor Hearing leaky
- Mar 14
In recent fixes to the library of updates built-in Intel graphics system controller (IGSCU FU) for Linux, there is an entry with a third graphics processor DG2, presumably having 256 executive units (that is, 2048 nuclei of FP32 or 16 xe nuclei). This change was seen by the Komachi insider.
Although it is referred to as SOC3, it is specified between SOC1 and SOC2, perhaps because it starts later. However, it is probably not the first time we hear about this option. In September 2020, the circuit of the printed circuit board with the alleged graphics processor DG2-384EU was leaked. It was even before Intel published official renders of SOC / SOC2 chips, so things like crystal dimensions were unknown.
With all that we already know, it seems that this alleged graphics processor 384EU is actually SOC3 with 256 cores mentioned by Intel. The crystal size should be approximately half the size of SOC1 (about 190-200 mm²).
With the return, by rumors, the third version of the DG2 graphics processor, we can assume that it is ideal for the Arc A500 series. With half the soc1 nuclei, it will probably be at the level of RTX 3060 / RX6600 performance.
According to Phoryonix, Intel recently added a new version of the DG2_G12 graphics processor into their I915 graphic drivers. This sub-platform can be SOC3, which rumors are running.
It should be remembered that there is a chance that SOC3 plans have been canceled, and the Intel IGSCU code simply shows the unused code for the GPU, which is likely to never be released. However, this leak proves that around the family of graphic processors Arc Alchemist is still a lot of riddles, despite its full launch in the next 4 months.
