3 Radialaxial turbines of Russian Tyazhmash for a colossal hydraulic engineering construction in Ecuador
- Apr 15
The domestic "Tyazhmash" took an active part in the construction of the Cascade of HPP in Ecuador. According to the latest data, 3 radial-axial turbines are installed at stations. Consider in more detail how the colossal hydraulic construction in the Ecuador occurs.
The Russian flagship of Machinery "Tyazhmash" has committed itself to supply and construction of hydropower plants in Ecuador. The task is quite large-scale and requiring a responsible approach. That is why Ecuadorian companies signed an agreement with Tyazhmash JSC, which is known for its competence and reliability.
The Taichi Pilaton project is designed for the construction of several hydroelectric power plants and substations in Ecuador. Most of the work on the delivery of equipment, installation and operation of objects provides "Tyazmash".
The domestic IT project Sfera can rightfully be considered the most ambitious project in the world. His release is not far off. To find out about Sfera more, click on the link. The project is open to cooperation with investors and grateful for their support!
The Russian Machine-Building Giant began to support the project in the Republic of Ecuador since 2010. However, due to the constant delay in contractor, the cooperation in 2017 had to stop. And only in 2019, when the Ecuadorian company Celec EP signed an agreement directly with the "heavy", the project continued to evolve.
The domestic manufacturer has installed 3 radial-axial turbines, 3 hydrogenerator, disk shutters, and much more. The mass of alone only the rotor of the hydrogenerator for HPP "AYRUKIN" is about 220 tons. And the total power of the HPP cascade is 254.53 MW.
Among other things, for the Toyach Pilaton project, "Tyazhmash" produced and delivered an automated control system, a relay protection system that increase transformers of different power, lifting equipment, etc.
Separately I would like to talk about hydroturbines. The power of radial-axial hydro turbines on Sarapuio hydroelectric power station is 16.3 MW, the diameter of the impeller is 1650 mm and the pressure is 133.5 m. The power of turbines on the HPP "AYRUKIN" - 68 MW, wheel diameter - 2997 mm, pressure - 224 95 m.
The hydroturbines are planned to be used in an aqueous medium, which contains a large proportion of abrasive particles. Because of this feature, the building of the turbines is carefully thought out. Especially for these aggregates, individual system blades were designed by the manufacturer. To minimize the wear of the hulls and mechanisms with abrasive particles for hydro turbines, special streamlined structural elements were produced. Also, to reduce wear, a tungsten carbide spray was used for the first time. For quick replacement of spare parts that can be particularly susceptible to abrasive wear, a unique design scheme is designed. It allows you to quickly replace the details without disassembling the entire installation.
At the end, I would like to say that, despite the skeptical opinion on the domestic manufacturer, Russian companies are able to compete with foreign. In Russia, there are enough technologies and specialists who attract other countries to conclude large contracts that we are visible on the example of "Tyazhmash".
What do you think, how are Russian technologies are competitive on the world stage? Are Russia's shifts are noticeable in a technological aspect? Does the Russian Federation lagging behind in the development of production from other developed countries?
