Microsoft Xbox Series X Dev Kit XDK disassemble and inspect
- Apr 25
The developer kit, also known as XDK (DEV Kit), obtained by Gamers Nexus (GN) C, is the version of the 2020 Developer set with AMD APU under the code name "Scarlett". It is equipped with an AMD 8-core processor with the ZEN2 architecture and the RDNA "NAVI" graphics processor with 56 computing blocks. These characteristics are probably the same for a retail kit and a set of development, but there may be changes in the clock frequency.
As the GN confirmed, the development kit, which was ripped, has not 16 GB of GDDR6 memory, and 40 GB, which could be the reason that in the early leaks of Xbox Series X, a higher capacity was mentioned at some point before the console issue.
XDK is equipped with 40 GB of SAMSUNG GDDR6 memory with a clock frequency of 14 Gb / s. It is unclear whether the memory is divided as on a retail device that has three pools for graphics (10 GB @ 320-bit), system memory (3.5 GB @ 192-bit) and operating system (2.5 GB @ 192-bit ).
A larger memory is usually used to debug, analyzing frames or detailed logs. Developers can also use this memory to unpack game assemblies, rather than overhead of resources for pre-optimized games, explains one of the game developers in the comments section.
The Xbox Series development kit is available on eBay at a price of about 1350 euros, but this price is only indicated for the previously prohibited version.
Microsoft is well aware of the illegal sale of its consoles and ensures that these devices are no longer working, even for offline games, therefore it is extremely important not to connect these devices to the Internet. A sample acquired by GN has already been pre-banned, so it cannot be used for any game activity.
