Project of international importance Construction of a multipurpose research nuclear reactor continues in Dimitrovgrad

As long as the reasoning about the potential of domestic fundamental science is being carried out, innovative construction worked in Dimitrovgrad. At the final stage, one of the most ambitious projects is coming out - the construction of a multipurpose research reactor on fast neutrons (MBIR). Such a large-scale object is created for the first time, there are no analogues around the world.
It is noteworthy that the construction is created using advanced BIM information modeling technology. The technique includes aerial photography and laser scanning (performed by unmanned drones), high-quality control over the performance of work and remote monitoring. Nuclear installation is created within the framework of the Federal Program for the Development of Atomic Science and Technology, which is also called the 14th National Project of Russia.
The new reactor will replace the Bor-60 research plant, launched in early 1969. Bor-60 became a prototype of low-power NPPs with its own system for producing electricity and transmission of part of heat into the heating network.

According to the characteristics of MBIR, one of the most powerful research reactors in the world. In its ability to provide maximum neutron flux density - 5.3 · 1015 N / (CM2 · C) and 150 MW thermal power (electrical - 55 MW). The speed of formation of the displacement to the atom in the channel is also maximum - above 34 sleep / year.
In addition, there are several independent loops with autonomous cooling. The active zone is equipped with instrumental cells, and a large number of cameras will create a large number of cameras. Consequently, the technical properties of MBIR are designed for a wide range of tasks.
It is worth noting the fact that the nuclear reactor is constructed with the participation of the consortium of researchers from a variety of countries. This suggests that MBIR will become an international research platform for technologies, studying neutron-physical, medical, applied processes and for analyzing space programs.
It will be carried out experiments with promising types of nuclear fuel and various types of coolants, as well as testing new construction materials. Another important task of the reactor will be the creation of isotopes necessary for the industry. It is assumed that research on the platform will be implemented at least until 2078.
The importance of the project is difficult to overestimate, since without it it is impossible to create 4 generation reactors. The range of the unique features of the platform is so wide that it can be safely argued: MBIR is the atomic energy of the future.
To date, those who want to work on a multi-purpose reactor are enough. Partners have already become scientists from Brazil, Africa, Latin America and other countries. Thus, the advisory board will allow developing the national scientific program of MBIR to the level of international.
