AMD confirms that its AM4 platform will exist for many more years
- May 23
The AM4 socket was a great success for AMD and consumers, especially for the first -generation of the 300 series, which recently received the support of the latest Ryzen 7 5800x3D processor. Although at first AMD resisted this, now it supports its latest Zen3 Vermer processors on many old AM4 motherboards.
Over his 5-year history, AM4 added support for 5 architectures, 4 generations and 125 names of processors. Today, the company confirmed that AMD partners have created up to 500 different fees.
At the COMPUTEX performance, AMD General Director Lisa Su confirmed that AMD will continue to support its AM4 platform in the coming years. This probably means software support and, possibly, a chance for new processors. In the end, AMD still produces Zen2 processors in 2022, so perhaps at some point the company will release updated Zen3 processors or move AM4 to the mass market, while Zen4 will take the High-End space. In fact, it is impossible to say that Lisa Su means by this long -term continuity.
But can the same long -term plan apply to the upcoming AM5 series? Maternal boards AMD 600 of the series have a more powerful supply of power, support the latest DDR5 memory technology, as well as PCIe Gen5 devices. At the moment, there really is nothing on the horizon that could do AM5 outdated in the near future.
