Today we will discuss a burning topic for all investors - access. After all, investments can bring not only profit, but also losses.
Investments bring stable income in the long term. But sometimes it happens that due to various unpredictable events, your investments can fall by 50% or even 80%.
For example, Sberbank shares from their maximum fell by 70%. If you invested 1 million rubles in it. In October, then you would now have about 300,000 rubles. The Russian stock market itself fell by approximately 45%.
But the US market also crushed the US market. Over the past 6 months, many shares of strong companies have decreased. For example, Amazon fell by almost 35%, Google - by 22%, Facebook - by 40%.
That is, even giants of the American economy fall (the largest capitalization of the company). And the reasons here are not geopolitical, but economic.
Most investors who bought the shares of technological companies in 2021 currently suffer losses.
Only a few technological companies have grown (for example, Apple, Broadcom). But most of the portfolios are now still in drawdowns (especially compared to 2020-2021).
Even buying such a reliable asset as a dollar, you can also get into a very unpleasant drawdown. For example, if you bought a dollar for 120 rubles, then at the moment you have a loss of more than 50% (after all, then a commission of 12% still acted).
What to do when you have a portfolio loss?
I have happened more than once when a separate asset or part of the portfolio filed by more than 30-50%.
Definitely do not just fix losses. There can be a lot of reasons for the sale of assets. But the reason cannot be that the asset simply grew or fell.
There should be some good reason for the sale:
Investing is the only way to form capital, providing yourself with wealth. Because, active income comes and leaves, people cannot always work with the same performance (crises happen, people lose their jobs).
Therefore, if you earn a lot now, this does not mean that you will earn a lot in the future. And investments allow you to form capital, save and increase it. And in the future they allow you to receive income from this capital.
If you have a diversified portfolio, then you will not see great growth, but you will not have so large losses (even in the case of cataclysms in the stock market).
If you have all the money invested in several assets, and they fell very strongly, it is better to weigh the quality of these assets.
For example, if you invested in the dollar, then selling it is definitely not worth it now. If you have invested in the Google, Amazon, Microsoft shares, etc., you should not sell them either, since it is fundamentally very strong companies.
Also, I recommend getting rid of ZASDENTS companies in the Russian market - Petropavlovsk, Mechel, VTB, etc. These companies can pull your portfolio down.
For today, thanks for your attention!
