IDC the global smartphone market falls the third quarter in a row
- May 10
According to preliminary data from the IDC report, the world smartphone market in the 1st quarter of 2022 (1q22) fell by 8.9% in annual terms and amounted to 314.1 million pieces. Thus, the smartphone market is reduced by the third quarter in a row, analysts explain the fall in a decrease in demand. Such data do not contradict the recent market analysis from Canalys.
In the regional context, the largest fall is in the region of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), where smartphone supplies fell by almost 20%, and further prospects are not clear. However, it must be understood that CEE accounts for only 6-7% of the global supplies of smartphones and about 5% of the market in money. The influence of the reduction in the market of China and other countries of the Asia-Pacific region, which accounts for almost half of the global market in pieces, is much more significant. In this region, the fall in total amounted to 12.3% 1q21.
Despite political stresses in a number of regions, the positions of leading vendors in the first quarter have not changed much. Samsung has retained leadership with a market share 23.4% - the largest share, counting from the 1st quarter of 2018. Next Apple (18.0%), and then in the decrease order of the Chinese vendors Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo follow (see table).
