In the SUSU, a mathematically calculated model of the eye of the insect. The information received will create “eyes” for robots on completely different principles, and the robot will be able to work without human participation. The model determines the distance to the object and the azimuth, and, therefore, the mobile robot will not need a person’s clues to recognize environmental objects.
When creating a mathematical model, an insect's eye was taken as a basis. He, like the future video sensor, consists of many "tiny independent photoreceptive units." The model of "facet vision" determines the conditions of visibility of the object with each lens. The data obtained are used to teach two neural networks. One of them determines the distance, and the second - the position of the object. The result allows the robot to lay a safe route and avoid collisions without human participation.

To understand all the value of the discovery, we will figure out how mobile robots see now. Their vision is built on the use of several types of sensors - photo, IR, laser, pressure sensor. The disadvantages of the system are in a large number of involved modules and the difference in the data obtained. This complicates the miscalculation of the trajectory of movement. Areas of using mobile robots are expanding. First of all, they perform delivery tasks. For example, such a robot will be able to deliver medicines to needy people. “Independent” robots will be in demand in the field of the Ministry of Emergencies.
