Hello Zen!
Finding an unusual smartphone today is a difficult task. Think carefully: what comes to your mind when you hear the word "smartphone"? Personally, I represent a bunch of cameras, a large display and a case wrapped in a gadget, which is not very convenient to use one hand. Similarly, the vast majority of modern mobile devices can be described - an infinite number of cameras and a solid volume battery for increasing sales, pulling the size of the screen and body. There is nothing wrong with that - so the trends were so.
The Japanese smartphone market against this background looks very nice and even gives nostalgia for times when the smartphone and tablet were devices “from different planets” - one really followed mobility, while it was convenient to watch films, play and read books thanks to the large screen. Japanese brands do not leave attempts to create compact devices - which are some Sony and Sharp, and there are other manufacturers. One of them is Mode1: the company outside Japan is unknown, like the Mode1 Grip smartphone, so I wanted to share a short opinion about it with you. To write the article I was "prompted" by the video Rozetked: this, of course, is not a review, but only a small news material.
The only thing that is known about the brand is several models that have been produced since 2015 - a small site tells about this (Mode1 even has its own folding on Android - MD -02P Retro FLIP). Mode1 Grip is also an additional name MD-05P, which indicates a model, as a fifth brand device.
Interest in the smartphone is explained - a device with a five -inch display looks like a baby and an “exhibit from the past” against the background of giant modern smartphones. The display of the device is elongated, which is why the width of its case was only 56 millimeters-a device that has a width of less than 70 millimeters, today can already be called compact. At the same time, its length of almost 140 millimeters is still comfortable, but for the sake of this it was necessary to sacrifice a thickness - it made up a whole centimeter. A mini-brick weighing 140 grams, if you like. Total plastic in this case is only a plus to the smartphone.
The separation of the lock button and the print scanner but the first is carried out on the left line and is highlighted in red, and the second is located on the right face, exactly under the swing of the volume. SIM-sneaker in the smartphone is hybrid: to choose from-two SIM cards/SIM + Microsd. The main interface of the smartphone - Type -C - can be covered with a special plug in the kit. The Japanese did not provide for headphones, but they did not forget about the IR sensor to control the equipment.
A small display is a TFT matrix with a resolution of 1440 by 576 pixels, a non-standard ratio of parties 22.5: 9 and protective glass. The technology is outdated, and the resolution is frankly low, but judging by the reviews, everything does not look so sad - the viewing angles are not subject to distortions, and the picture does not break up due to the size of the screen. The thick frames along the entire front surface cause a new wave of nostalgia - drops and cuts were too boring to us too much.
We will quickly run through technical capabilities: the Helio G70 from the MediaTek does not show prohibitive performance, giving out a little more than 1,50,000 points in Antutu. Obviously, the Japanese did not try to give out "top for their money" - this smartphone is about something completely different. Moreover, a pure Android 11th version is used as a system - with such an iron, the system is able to work adequately. It surprises the presence of wireless charging, but it, like wired, is able to charge a smartphone’s battery with a volume of 2620 mA/h only with a power of 5 watts.
Two cameras, located on the back side, require only one - light. In the afternoon, they cope with the shooting normally, in the late afternoon problems begin - for modern sensors for 48 and 8 megapixels, and even without normal lenses, the situation is typical. The same applies to the front camera for 25 megapixels. The smartphone knows how to write a video in a resolution of 1080p with 30 frames per second, and an electric stab works in the name of smoothness.
A little about the features of the smartphone. The opening hole for attaching the strap is an amazing find for the device of our days: I don’t remember when I last saw it in mobile phones, not like in smartphones! IP65 protection in such a device has also become a kind of surprise. But, judging by the reviews, this conditional protection is that the contact of a smartphone with water is extremely undesirable.
In general, depending on Mode1 Grip, one gets the feeling that it would never have become popular in the global market - in Japan there is a demand for such devices, and he explains: people are accustomed to compact gadgets that can be conveniently used in any conditions. And the price of 25 thousand rubles for such a device in Russia will seem inadequate to many - Xiaomi, Realme and other "mastodons" in their smartphones will share both with performance and the screen much the best. Just do not forget that Japanese and, for example, Chinese smartphones as a whole are absolutely opposite “camps” to each other, and their tasks are usually different.
