Is the engineering sample AMD Ryzen 9 7950X shown MSI
- Sep 27
AMD really wanted to share the renders and photographs of their models of the Ryzen 7000 “AM5” case with a completely new built -in radiator. However, these layouts were most likely not real processors. On the other hand, there are new photos with a clear “AMD Eng SAMPLE” mark, as can be seen in the screenshots with a video from MSI:
The leak, which occurred back in January of this year, provided two OPN code for AMD engineering samples: 665 and 666. The first is supposed to be a 16-core processor with 32 flows, and 666-an 8-core SKU. Such a configuration, obviously, suggests Sku Ryzen 9 7950x (t) or, as AMD will call it.
A sample with the OPN 665 code appeared in the MilkyWay@Home leak, where the program found 32 processors, and this is how it reads the number of flows. As we see, the leak is dated December 24, 2021, so this engineering model is most likely very old. In fact, the photo above clearly indicates 2021 as the date of production.
The video shows the processor installation process for the new AMD AM5/LGA1718 socket. It is definitely worth checking, but probably it will not be very useful for a few more months when the launch of these new Zen4 desktop processors is expected.
