New scientific work leads to reexamining the boundaries of the cruel customs of ancient Iberia
Experts from the Autonomous University of Barcelona conducted a large-scale interdisciplinary study that sheds light on the dark customs of antiquity.
As reported in the publication of the journal Trabajos de Prehistoria, scientists were able to prove for the first time that the ritual of beheading was widespread in the Iberian Peninsula much further south than previously thought.
Experts examined in detail 15 skull fragments from two key archaeological sites: the settlements of Olerdol and Moly d'Espigol.
Judging by the results, the ritual resembled the customs of the Celtic tribes of Central Europe and included not only murder, but also special treatment of the remains.
