Scientists have discovered how the Arctic islands were settled over 4,000 years ago
Scientists have concluded that ancient people visited remote Arctic islands more than 4,000 years ago.
The islands are located in the area of the so-called Pikialasorsuaq polynya, an area of unfrozen water surrounded by sea ice.
On the island of Isbjorn, part of the Kitsissut group, archaeologists discovered traces of Paleo-Eskimos, including the remains of a round tent.
The study adds an important piece to the understanding of the history of Arctic settlement and highlights the skill and courage of ancient seafarers.
