A study has been conducted: garlic turned out to be a good contraceptive for flies and mosquitoes
The Yale University team studied the neural circuits responsible for insect reproduction using fruit flies as a model organism.
As part of the experiment, fruit flies were offered 43 different foods, but only garlic caused a radical decrease in reproductive activity.
Diallyl disulfide plays a key role, which triggers mechanisms that block mating and egg laying.
The effect is especially pronounced in females.
